As the raw material of SYKOL Activated bleaching earth, Bentonite, which is composed mostly by Montmorillonite(60%-80%) ,is regarded as the “almighty clay” because of its widely usage (can be used in 24 kinds of field, more than 100 departments and produce into 300 kinds of different products ).
Montmorillonite consists of 3 layers or lamellae with two layers of silicon oxygen tetrahedron sandwich an alumina octahedral. Cu, Mg, Na, K, etc. positive ions, exist in the Unit cells of Montmorillonite, doing un-stable works with unit cells and easily to be exchanged by other positive ions. So, it gives Bentonite a good Ion Exchanging Ability.
After a series processes of Inorganic acidic activation, washing, drying of Bentonite, binding sites were activated, surface was enlarged, and then comes the absorption ability into SYKOL Activated bleaching earth.
This is achieved by adding a mineral acid to a finely milled and heated bentonite suspension, the acidic protons attack the individual lamellae from all sides and replace the interlayer cations, metal cations was replaced by protons, the binding sites are activated now and given the ability to absorb. The ion exchange with protons makes the additional water enter between the layers and mineral swells, thereby increasing the surface area than raw material to 300m2/g. By controlling the acid concentration, temperature and exposure time, the activation degree of bleaching earth could be adjusted at the best situation,
In the process of acidic activation, metal ions were released and could be used for waste water plant phosphate precipitation. Phosphates entering wastewater could affect the nutrient balance in water and soil, with the supporting of Aluminum or iron salt, they could converted into solid so that can be removed easily from waste water.
